The Maryville Spoofhound Boys Basketball Camp will be held from Monday, July 7 to Thursday, July 10 at the High School. Grades 9 to 12 will run from 9 AM to Noon, 3 to 5 from 1 PM to 2 PM, and 6 to 8 from 2 PM to 3:30 PM. Mike Kuwitizeki will be the head coach for this camp and you can register after arrival at the High School.


Northwest's summer movie series is returning to campus. Sponsored by the Office of Campus Activities, all movies in the Tuesday-night series begin at 7 PM in the Performing Arts Center or, weather permitting, across the street at College Park Pavilion. Summer movie nights are free and open to the public. The screening schedule is:

Mom's on a Mission will hold a collection drive for Beanie Babies and other goodies for the Troops serving overseas from now until the end of the Hopkins Picnic and they will box items at the Hopkins community building at 9 AM on Monday, July 14, and then mail items that day. If you would like to meet the founder, Karen Kounders, who has passionately worked on these drives since the beginning of the Iraq war, please come, give a hand, bring a treat, or just visit. Gift bags with a Beanie Baby and snacks and a gift card will be placed in boxes. A gift bag can be sponsored for $10. A person can sign up to sponsor one, two, or as many gift bags as they choose. The gift card with your name on it as the sponsor for the bag will be included in the bag. If you desire to sponsor a gift bag, you may send your money/donation made out to Moms on a Mission, c/o Wray Memorial UMC, PO Box 126, Hopkins, Missouri 64461. Snack items needed include granola bars, snack bars, fruit bars, breakfast bars, cheese and crackers, peanut butter and crackers, snack cookies, or other mailable snack foods. Bring your donations to the Maryville Wal-Mart or Hy-Vee stores after July 7 until July 13. You may also bring your items to the Hopkins Community Building during the Hopkins Picnic, or to the United Methodist Picnic Food Stand located across from the community building on Third Street from 5 PM to 11 PM on July 10, 11, or 13. Maryville Parks and Recreation will hold registration for a youth day camp until Friday, July 11 at the Maryville Community Center (1407 North Country Club Road). The camp will feature outdoor activities, arts and crafts, and more. Cost for a full day (7:30 AM to 5 PM) is $80 and a hlaf day (7:30 AM to Noon or 12:30 PM to 5 PM) is $60. Sarah Davison, originally from Braddyville, Iowa now residing in Nashville, Tennessee, will be performing on Sunday, July 13 at Braddy Park in Braddyville, Iowa. She and her band from Nashville will be playing a variety of great music, including country, western swing, ragtime piano, and gospel. This show will be a wonderful opportunity to see and hear some of Nashville's best talent and have a one of a kind country music experience. There will be a free will offering at the concert, which, begins at 7:30 PM. The Braddyville Betterment Committee will have sandwiches, drinks and homemade pie available in Braddy Hall beginning at 5:30 PM.


The Parnell Duck Race and Festival will be held in Parnell Park on Sunday, July 13. The events will start with a church servce at the bandstand at 9:30 AM and there will be a barbeque at the Methodist Church from 11 AM to 2 PM. The parade will start at 11:30 AM and the mic-o-say dancers will perform after the parade. The NEN Elementary PTO Duck Race at the Platte River will start at 1:30 PM and there will be a pet show at 2 PM. There will also be a flea market and other events all day.

The Nodaway County Fair will be held in downtown Maryville July 15 - July 19. The Fair parade will be held at 9:30 AM on Saturday, July 19. For a full list of other events and attrations visit the official website.


There will be a Battle of the Bands at the Bethany Fairgrounds in Bethany, MO on Saturday, July 19. Gates open at 2 PM with the music starting at 3 PM. Admission is $5 per person and all proceeds will go to benefit Tyson McLain who has a rare disease (Friedreich's Disease). Burgers and kielbasas from Thomas Farm Quality Meats will also be served at the event.

The Savannah United Methodist Church will hold a Garage Sale on Thursday, July 31 from 4 PM to 8 PM, Friday, August 1 from 8 AM to 6 PM, and Saturday, August 2 from 8 AM to Noon. There will be a large variety of items with all clothes $2 per sack and other items half price on Saturday. All proceeds from the sale will benefit the SUMC Stained Glass Window Restoration Project.


There will be a Bike Rally "The First Annual Across the Border Raid" at the Taylor County Fairgrounds in Bedford, IA from August 15th to the 17th. All profits from the rally will go to local charities and back into the community for economic development. The event will feature live bands on Friday and Saturday nights, many bike events, a poker fun and fun run, camping and much more. Admission are $20 in advance and $25 at the gates. The 22nd Annual "Graffiti Sunday" Car, Truck, and Motorcycle show will be held at Messick Park in Savannah Missouri on Sunday, August 24. The Peer Support Line is now up and running in this area. The line is for people with and affected by mental illness and provides support, contact with others in similar situations, and understanding. The newly formed Maryville Bike club is hosting group rides every Saturday morning at 9:30 AM and Tuesday evenings at 5:45 PM. Both ride leave from Donaldson Westside Park. Riders of all levels welcome. Helmets are also strongly encouraged. For more information email here.


The Survivor Support Group meets monthly on the first Thursday from 6 PM to 7 PM at the Wesley Center located at 549 West Fourth St. in Maryville. All those whose lives have been touched by the tragedy of suicide are invited to come talk and share thoughts and feelings in a comfortable and confidential setting. The Northwest Opry featuring the Grand River Pickers will perform every Sunday at Movie Magic (214 West 3rd) from 2 PM to 5 PM. Walk on performers are welcome and there is also a snack bar and dance floor at the event. Everyone in the area is welcome to attend.


The Parnell American Legion Post #528 hosts a free will donation breakfast the first Sunday of each month. All proceeds go toward community projects.

Maryville Parks and Recreation hosts a Senior Pitch Tournament each Tuesday afternoon from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM at the Maryville Community Building. There is no charge to participate.


There will be a Loss of a Child support group from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM every fourth Tuesday of the month at St. Francis Hospital's Hospitality Room. Refreshments will be served at the meetings and for more information call 582-8510.


The Maryville Public Library will host a Book Club meeting on the third Tuesday of each month from 7 PM to 9 PM in the library basement. All interested readers are invited to attend and a book list is available from the library.

Sheridan Community Betterment Club hosts dances every fourth Saturday night of the month at the Sheridan School from 9 PM to 1 AM, with breakfast following. All proceeds will go to improvements and maintenance of the school building.


Temple Baptist Church holds "The Kings Kids Program" starting at 7 PM every Wednesday night. This is for children in grades 1 - 6 and includes playing games and learning about the bible.
