Royals still sturggling at Camden Yards

BALTIMORE (AP) - Daniel Cabrera pitched a seven-hitter to earn his first victory since May 20, Aubrey Huff homered and the Baltimore Orioles beat Gil Meche and the Kansas City Royals 5-2 last night. Cabrera (6-4) retired 13 straight batters before David DeJesus singled with two outs in the eighth inning. The right-hander struck out two and walked none in his second complete game of the season, both of which have come against the Royals. Cabrera is 5-0 with a 2.21 ERA lifetime against Kansas City, and the Orioles are 8-0 in his eight career starts against the Royals. Meche (6-9) allowed five runs, four earned, and nine hits in six innings.

Glaus blasts Cardinals to win over Mets

ST. LOUIS (AP) - The St. Louis Cardinals conclude a four-game series with the New York Mets with a game tonight (Thursday) at Busch Stadium. Rookie Mitchell Boggs tries to improve to 4-0 for St. Louis. Mike Pelfrey (5-6) pitches for New York. Last night, Troy Glaus' second homer of the game with two outs in the ninth won it for St. Louis, an inning after pinch-hitter Chris Duncan's two-run shot tied it in the Cardinals' 8-7 victory over the New York Mets. Glaus' fifth career game-winning homer came off rookie Carlos Muniz (0-1), a towering drive that barely cleared the left-field wall. Rick Ankiel hit his 17th homer in the fifth and flied out to the wall in center field before Glaus' at-bat. Ryan Franklin (3-2) worked a perfect ninth for the Cardinals.

Woman files lawsuit against Kansas City Wizards

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - A former Kansas City Wizards employee is alleging she and other female employees were subjected to regular sexual harassment in a lawsuit against team management. Kathryn Carver filed the lawsuit Monday in Jackson County (Missouri) Circuit Court against OnGoal LLC, the Wizards' ownership group, and two of the company's vice presidents, Greg Cotton and Robert Thomson. The suit alleges several complaints including Cotton describing one employee as "the dumbest person I have ever met," but "worth keeping around for the scenery." Carver worked as an executive assistant before resigning in November when she alleges a memo threatening to fire employees who spoke with outside lawyers about the company's employment practices. Wizards officials couldn't be reached for comment.

Work continues to try to get Iowa-Iowa State game on television

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Iowa and Iowa State football fans now have something in common to root for: a possible deal between Mediacom and the Big Ten Network. Iowa officials say the Sept. 13 matchup between the Hawkeyes and Cyclones will be televised on the Big Ten Network. Mediacom, Iowa's largest cable TV provider, does not carry the network. Iowa athletic director Gary Barta said last month that Mediacom and the Big Ten Network are set to resume negotiations. That's after the network reached a deal with Comcast, which covers every state in the Big Ten but Iowa. The annual rivalry game will be played at Kinnick Stadium, with kickoff set for 11 a.m. The Hawkeyes first two home games, against Maine and Florida International, will also start at 11:00 a.m.
